    • In the middle of a cereal plateau today, once wooded, dotted with vine cultivation for the production of Monbazillac and Bergerac (AOC), we see a bell tower... This is Issigeac.

On the borders of Dordogne and Lot and Garonne, Issigeac is a medieval city that makes the exception in the middle of all the neighbouring bastides.

In the heart of its old circular enclosure where the alleys roll like a snail, we discover a village of character where shadow and light, wood and stone intermingle, where the alleys, alleys, resurrect the past.

While walking through the heart of the labyrinth, you can see the medieval stone houses that entwine with the unique half-timbered houses in Périgord. Built in the 14th and 15th centuries, they have preserved the authenticity and finesse of the architecture, making them the originality of the village. Image hunters stroll in search of surprising buildings. Thus at the corner of the Grand' rue they look up and observe the Maison des Têtes, with its stone arches, its wooden panels decorated with carved wooden heads; on the square, face to face, the Palais des Evêques de Sarlat (17th century) and the church St Félicien (late Gothic), on the city tour, the Prévôté.

A peaceful village in the heart of the countryside that today energizes its village with the colourful Sunday morning market and all its events. Issigeac, an invitation to travel, a place of stroll where, at the crossroads of the alleys, only the cooing of the pigeons punctuate our steps. We can imagine the life of yesteryear, the encounters around the fountains and the walks along the river...

Issigeac is a bit like a trip back in time ⌛ Small picturesque streets and stone and half-timbered houses with evocative names: the mushroom house, the house of heads, the wall that has ears, the witches' passage... A small town of character which is worth the detour, especially on Sundays for its magnificent market 😋 which is one of the most beautiful in Dordogne. It gets crowded, especially in season, but the car parks at the entrances to the village make it relatively easy to park.
