On the borders of the Périgord Pourpre and the Périgord Noir, the village of Cadouin, nestled around its abbey, is a true haven of peace in the heart of the Béssède forest. Cadouin is now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, an essential stop on the road to Santiago de Compostela.
Founded in 1115 by Géraud de Salles and affiliated with the Cistercian order in 1119, Cadouin Abbey impresses with the richness of its architecture. The Romanesque church and the flamboyant Gothic cloister, rebuilt at the end of the 15th century, offer a striking contrast, testifying to the centuries of history that have shaped this emblematic place in the south of Périgord.
Around the medieval market hall, the charm of Cadouin works : stroll through the alleys, sit on a terrace to savor the local gastronomy or take part in a friendly moment during a concert.
Many activities invite you to extend your stay: go hiking on the Pèlerins loop, or have fun with your family on the Terra Aventura trail. Cadouin is also a stop on the Amadour trail.
