5 Reasons to eat at “LA TOUR DES VENTS” close to BERGERAC

5 Reasons to eat at “ ...

The Tour des Vents is a one star gastronomic restaurant, graciously perched on the hills of the vineyard of Monbazillac. In the heart of the vines, this restaurant offers the excellence of the high cuisine (fine food), as well as a "bistrot" option, different but just as attractive. The chef Damien Fagette, offers a refined gastronomy with some Périgord hints, invites you to try its delights... Here are 5 good reasons to go to eat at La Tour des Vents, if you are visiting the Bergeracois.

1-) A well managed restaurant

The Tour des Vents and the neighbouring Bistrot de Malfourat, belong to Bernard Giraudel. Illustrious character and influencer of the gastronomy in Dordogne, he is the creator of the Vieux Logis, Bistrot de la Place and Tartines etc in Trémolat. He is a man who knows hospitality and how to surround himself with people exalting with passion, the quality and the prestige of the local products. The Tour des Vents became a Michelin Star Restaurant under the management of the Chef Marie Rougier Salvat who retired 3 years ago. Bernard Giraudel strives for the success of this marvellous restaurant. The Bistrot de Malfourat, was entirely built around a peculiar instrument: a “Limonaire” (Fairground organ). Many years ago, it was a popular musical hall, with Monbazillac wine and crepes every Sunday! Today it is a upmarket bistrot with an appetizing and affordable a la carte menu, which holds a very popular ‘after work’ concert/buffet the second Friday of each month.

2-) THE CHOICE OF WEAPONS: SILVERWARE OR CHECKERED TABLECLOTH

At La Tour des Vents and the Bistrot de Malfourat, you can come to eat the cuisine of Damien Fagette, for different occasions and for all budgets.

A romantic meal, a birthday, a special occasion to celebrate or just the pleasure of treating yourself? Come to La Tour des Vents, discover a cuisine mixing the greatest food of the Périgord with the fine and bold sauces of a great chef.

Are you looking for a great place for a business meal, a lunch with friends, a lunch full of flavours? Come to the Bistrot de Malfourat.

3-) LONG LIVE THE YOUTH!

Damien Fagette is a young and dynamic chef. At 32 years old (in 2017), he has been a starred chef for 3 years and meets his customers’ expectations. I am welcomed with kindness and humbleness: "A star is a consecration. The chef leads, but above all of it is a team. All the collaborators are important. I am happy to be here, I appreciate working in this category of restaurant. For the past 3 years, our customer base has grown and renewed, we welcome more young people, who finally dare to push at the door of a gastronomic restaurant. During the summer, we have a lots of tourists, of course, but all year long there is a core of locals between La Tour des Vents and the Bistrot. We can reach many different people, it is inspiring”.

4-) a breathtaking view

La Tour des Vents has a 360 degree panoramic view! Dare to climb the steps of the belvedere, to look at the orientation table and enjoy this unique view, before going back to your meal.

To tempt you, as much by the beauty of the dishes as the landscapes, I shot a small video during my lunch at La Tour des Vents. At the end of the video there is an unusual surprise for music enthusiasts...

5-) TASTE, TASTE, AND TASTE AGAIN!

Is it really necessary to say that the food is absolutely divine? Let me itemize my meal (see the video above) to get your mouth watering.

· Starter: crayfish salad and duck foie gras, creamy cauliflower, rouille sauce and fine jelly of shells...

· Main Course: Roasted piglet with Guéméné andouille sausage, shallots confit, caramel orange and clove, eggplant caviar and méchoui lamb spices reduced juice...

· Dessert: Lemon tart, guimauve hibiscus and Macha green tea ice-cream...

The plates especially the starter, were beautiful and very well presented. I am always concerned by the small quantity of food on the plates of the great restaurants (I eat a lot!), but here everything was perfect and sufficient. The beauty of the surrounding decorations is an invite to the tasting of each bite, slowly and with respect for these dishes as beautiful as delicious.

I award a special mention for the Macha green tea ice cream, which blew me away with its delicate and suave savour, melting in the mouth, so original!
