    • LE PETIT BISTROT IN SARLAT: LOCAL CUISINE AND WARM ATMOSPHERE

An ideal location in the heart of Sarlat

Located in the historic center of Sarlat-la-Canéda, a stone's throw from the tourist office and the medieval streets, Le Petit Bistrot, the latest creation of Isabelle and Franck, welcomes its guests in a friendly and warm setting. The restaurant offers both a sunny terrace , a balcony with a view and two elegant rooms with careful decoration. This Sarladais bistro is distinguished by its cozy atmosphere, where every detail has been thought out to offer a pleasant experience to guests, whether they are passing through or regulars.

Homemade cuisine and fresh local produce

Since its recent opening, Le Petit Bistrot has been part of the tradition of Périgord Noir cuisine by promoting local and seasonal products. Chef Yannick Brunneau, an expert in regional gastronomy, has created a menu that highlights local specialties. Among the must-sees are the pork anchaud with spices, the duck confit and the famous duck breast with Périgueux sauce. Particular attention is paid to the truffle, this black diamond of Périgord, which perfumes several dishes and gives the food an authentic and delicate flavor.

Dishes inspired by the Périgord tradition

Each dish offered at Petit Bistrot is a testament to regional culinary expertise. The menu includes typical dishes such as Périgord trout steak, accompanied by basil cream and mashed potatoes, or Sarladaise potatoes, prepared with porcini mushrooms, which are the perfect accompaniment to local meats. For a convivial experience, croustous, Périgord tapas, are also offered to share with friends over a glass of local wine.

A regional wine list and quality products

Le Petit Bistrot also stands out for its selection of wines from the surrounding vineyards. Guests can discover regional wines that enhance the dishes and offer a real immersion in the wine culture of the Périgord Noir. The drinks, as well as the dishes, are chosen for their authenticity and their respect for the flavors of the terroir. For lovers of local products, the bistro also offers a range of traditional desserts, highlighting the fruits and nuts typical of the region.

A place for all types of events

With its different spaces, Le Petit Bistrot is an ideal place to host various events: business meals, family reunions, or evenings with friends. In addition to à la carte meals, the bistro offers room privatization, allowing you to organize events in a warm and intimate setting. Open all year round, the establishment is suitable for dinners with friends, family lunches or professional meetings.

TO DISCOVER IN THE SURROUNDINGS OF THE PETIT BISTROT: THE PÉRIGORD NOIR WITHIN REACH

Less than 30 kilometers around Sarlat-la-Canéda, the Périgord Noir is full of sites and activities to extend the discovery of the region. Nature lovers will find many hiking trails, offering panoramic views of the valleys and wooded landscapes of the Périgord. The Dordogne River allows activities such as canoeing or paddle boarding, offering a unique perspective on the cliffs and castles lining its banks.

For those looking to delve into local history, the medieval villages of La Roque-Gageac and Beynac-et-Cazenac offer picturesque settings, while the Lascaux caves in Montignac reveal fascinating prehistoric paintings. The Sarlat market, one of the most renowned in the region, offers local produce every week, such as foie gras, truffles, and cheeses from regional producers. Finally, food lovers can meet small producers to discover the authentic flavors of the Périgord Noir.

No reservations but we were warmly greeted. Nice selection of wine and a varied menu. Service was attentive. Food prep was top notch. Had the trout. Done perfectly with an incredible sauce. We will be back later this week.

Dinner started out nicely but it went downhill quickly. I ordered duck confit with mushrooms and my wife ordered lamb with mashed potatoes. We ordered in English. The server brought us dishes that looked close to what we ordered but we weren't 100% sure. We ate the meals (we were hungry and had been waiting awhile) and we waited for the server to come by to ask how we were doing, but she waited until we were finished. We then confirmed that what we ordered was not exactly what we were served -- and she asked if it was excellent. Um, not quite. My wife said no... and I said the same (because the vegetables were horribly overcooked). When I complained inside the restaurant, the server turned out to be the manager (not sure if she was being truthful or not) and she decided to speak entirely in French when countering my arguments about the meals. She took no responsibility, told me we must've enjoyed the meals because we ate most of the food, and when I told her we ate the meals because we'd waited long enough and we were hungry, she doubled-down on me... the customer being WRONG. I've never had a restaurant owner push the responsibility for the wrong meals being served placed on me. I would stay far away from this place unless you like drama and being blamed for mistakes with the meals. Far away. There are so many other alternatives in Sarlat.
