    • CHÂTEAU TERRE VIEILLE, PÉCHARMANT, IN SAINT-SAUVEUR: BETWEEN HISTORY AND TASTING

      Architecture and landscapes

Pierre et Fleur welcome visitors to the heart of the Château Terre Vieille vineyard in a warm atmosphere, steeped in the history and prehistoric terroir of the region. Established on the estate since 1989, Gérôme and Dolores have meticulously restored the 17th and 18th century buildings, once owned by the philosopher Maine de Biran under the name of Grateloup estate.

The three original buildings, including the dovecote offering a breathtaking view of the valley, have retained their authentic architecture. Gérôme Morand-Monteil, with passion and respect for heritage, was able to renovate them while preserving their Perigord character. Openings have been added, such as so-called “shell” windows, testifying to local know-how and materials from the region.

Under the porch of the tasting room, notice the framework made from the estate's oaks, the piles of stone extracted from a Périgord quarry, and the roof with flat tiles, respecting the local architectural tradition.

The tasting takes place in a unique atmosphere. The room contains an exceptional collection of flint, testifying to 20,000 to 300,000 years of history, discovered during the plowing of the soil for planting vines. These unique pieces give Terre Vieille wines an extraordinary minerality.

      Favorite original initiatives & innovation

Château Terre Vieille stands out for its original initiatives. Open all year round for tastings without appointment from Monday to Saturday, and on Sunday without appointment, the estate also offers unique experiences between May and September.

      • Food & Wine Pairing Tasting: In the old pig sheds, discover a tasting combining three wines with local appetizers. A taste journey commented by a member of the family, subtly combining the Divine, the Chevalier in AOC Pécharmant, and the Château Terre Vieille 2018.
      • Tapas & Pintxos Corner: After the tasting, enjoy 100% local tapas. Choose your location in the park, dotted with tables and chairs, and enjoy an assortment of Périgord products.
      • “Taste the Terroir” picnic: By reservation for groups of 6 to 25 people, enjoy a privileged experience with an in-depth tasting and a picnic composed of local products. Enjoy this peaceful moment in the middle of the vineyards.

      The family wine estate

Founded in 1989 by Gérôme and Dolores Morand-Monteil, Château Terre Vieille mainly produces wines in the Pécharmant appellation.

The Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec grape varieties give their wines a remarkable roundness and character, making them excellent wines for aging.

Former Grateloup estate of the philosopher Maine de Biran, the castle brings together history and prehistory.

The tasting room displays a unique collection of flints discovered during the plowing of the soil, reinforcing the deep link between the terroir and the wines of Château Terre Vieille.

The original buildings, witnesses of Périgord architecture, have been carefully restored by Gérôme Morand-Monteil.

Under the porch of the tasting room, the discerning eye can appreciate the framework fashioned from the estate's oaks. The two imposing stone piles come from a Périgord quarry, ensuring perfect integration into the landscape. The flat tiled roof, respecting the characteristic slope of Perigord roofs, blends harmoniously into the environment.

      Tasting, history, and landscapes

The tasting experience at Château Terre Vieille goes beyond exceptional wines.

The tasting room tells the story through a unique flint collection. Tools and objects dating from 20,000 to 300,000 years ago, discovered during soil plowing, reveal a captivating prehistory. These finds give the wines an extraordinary minerality, merging the prehistoric terroir and emblematic grape varieties.

Gérôme Morand-Monteil knew how to preserve authenticity while adding subtle touches of improvement. Openings have brightened up the large roof of the old stable, while elegant sitting dog windows have enhanced the roof of the sharecroppers' house, now housing the offices.

Visitors are invited to enjoy the park dotted with tables and chairs, a place of tranquility where you can contemplate the history engraved in the stone of the buildings and the evolution of the vineyard over the years. The food and wine pairing tastings under the cabins offer a sensory experience, combining Château Terre Vieille wines with quality local products.

When you leave, don't forget to collect your wine order from the store. The flint and stone covering, discovered on site, is striking for its originality and its harmonious integration into the landscape.

      Conclusions and perspectives

In conclusion, Château Terre Vieille in Saint-Sauveur is much more than a wine estate. It is a journey through history and the terroir, a place where Périgord architecture mixes with innovative initiatives and exceptional wines.

The Morand-Monteil family, with its dedication to heritage preservation, has created an experience that goes beyond simple wine tasting. Every visitor is invited to delve into history, from captivating prehistory to the careful conservation of the original buildings.

With original initiatives such as food and wine pairing tastings, 100% local tapas, and “Taste the Terroir” picnics, Château Terre Vieille offers a complete and immersive experience. The marriage between the architectural heritage, the history of the land, and the passion for wine creates a unique whole, captivating the senses and leaving memorable memories for visitors.

At Château Terre Vieille, we discover not only exceptional wines but also a living tribute to history, prehistory, and Périgord tradition. A place where past and present merge to offer an unforgettable experience to wine lovers and the curious in search of authentic discoveries.

We had a fantastic wine pairing/tasting at Château Terre Vieille. We were kindly received by Fleur, who was very relaxed and attentive. The surroundings are beautiful and calming, the locally produced food was delicious and the wine was exquisite! We’ve stayed for almost two hours and went back with a car filled with wine ;)

A beautiful place with amazing, welcoming staff. Arrived by cycle immediately, the owner came and greeted us. Said we can just sit and enjoy his gardens, have some wine and relax. Literally the best experience of our trip so far. The wine is, in our opinion the best in the region. Please visit this beautiful vineyard/gardens!
