    • The former barn of castle les Merles has become a warm and welcoming gastronomic restaurant. A few kilometers east of Bergerac between Sarlat and Bordeaux, Les Merles offers seasonal cuisine, dishes prepared by Chef Bas Holten, who uses local produce to offer you healthy and innovative cuisine.

In the castle courtyard by candlelight or inside by the large fireplace, create your own à la carte menu from the wide choice of starters, main courses and desserts or choose our 3-course menu of the day.

As the chef says: We are looking for the perfect balance, both on the plate and on the side. Innovative creations, local products, real pure flavors. For us, quality and hospitality are paramount.

Well what a beautiful place this was, I stumbled upon this little gem hidden behind the main Cahors-Bergerac national road. First you find a 17th century Chateau Les Merles beautifully kept with amazing views and surrounded by their own vineyards. With their own choice of villas and rooms styled to suit the 17th century Chateau they are within. The restaurant was much of the same styling and the staff are all amazing. They had three set out menus when we were there and if course you can make your own three course meal from the fabulous selection they had. All of the staff had no problem speaking English if your struggling with your french. All three courses I had were full of flavour and for the sizes of each dish they were filling. Their wine list is vast and with their own self produced wines on the menu. This time I couldn't taste as with I was driving. They also have a well layed out 9 hole golf course. Next time I am in the Dordogne I will add it to my to-do list to stay and get the proper indulgence that this location has to offer. My best wishes to future passersby and guests staying here as it's like being in a dream and not being able to here the traffic on the busy road nearby.

This is a really great restaurant. We took the "degustation" menu, with 5 courses, and they were excellent : Foie gras for starter, shrimp and vegetables next, chicken and mashed potatoes then, 3 local cheese next and finally a orange "soufflé" which was delicious ! The waiters are kind, and the price was reasonable for the quality of the meal : 42€ for the menu and 7€ for a glass of wine to drink with.
