    • THE « GUINGUETTE D'AUJOURD'HUI » IN CREYSSE, NEAR BERGERAC

An idyllic setting by the Dordogne River

La Guinguette d'Aujourd'hui, located in Creysse near Bergerac, offers a charming setting along the Dordogne River. Nestled in the Purple Périgord, this guinguette stands out for its warm atmosphere and exceptional location.

The restaurant boasts a breathtaking view of the river, creating an ideal ambiance for a friendly meal. The owners, Bas and Lissy Holten, have put all their expertise into this unique place, where authenticity and conviviality blend harmoniously.

A local cuisine with fresh products

La Guinguette d'Aujourd'hui offers local cuisine that highlights fresh, seasonal products. Chef Bas Holten, with 20 years of experience at the helm of the gastronomic restaurant at Château des Merles in Mouleydier, has crafted a menu that evolves daily. Working closely with local growers and regional producers, he selects quality ingredients to create flavorful dishes.

The guinguette’s menu features a variety of dishes, including a three-course menu for 25 euros, showcasing the culinary richness of the region. Among the specialties is smoked eel on a bed of radish, carefully prepared by the chef. Bas Holten is also committed to reducing waste by working with limited stocks and preparing everything on-site, ensuring the freshness of the dishes.

      A convivial and authentic atmosphere

The decor of La Guinguette d'Aujourd'hui reflects the spirit of the place. Lissy Holten, in charge of decoration, sourced tableware from flea markets to create a unique and authentic atmosphere. The bucolic setting of the Riva Bella esplanade, where the guinguette is located, invites visitors to relax and enjoy the pleasures of the senses.

The relaxed atmosphere, combined with a commitment to quality, makes this a popular destination for lovers of good food and convivial moments.

      Responsible and committed cuisine

Chef Bas Holten is known for his commitment to responsible cuisine. He enjoys meeting his producers, farmers, and fishermen to understand the origin of the products and their production methods. This approach allows him to respect the ingredients in his cooking while supporting local agriculture.

Among the notable initiatives, the chef sometimes offers catfish, a less appreciated fish that deserves to be highlighted. This bold approach reflects his desire to diversify ingredients and offer innovative dishes.

      Discover the surroundings of Creysse

Around Creysse, within a 30 km radius, numerous activities and sites of interest await visitors. Hiking enthusiasts can explore trails offering panoramic views of the Dordogne Valley. The GR 6 trail, for example, traverses varied landscapes between vineyards and forests, perfect for discovering the nature of the Périgord.

Local markets, such as the one in Bergerac (around the Notre-Dame Church and Place des 2 Conils, from 7 am to 1 pm – on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Place Barbacane, on Friday mornings), offer an immersion into local flavors with their colorful stalls filled with fresh produce. Local small-scale producers offer fruits, vegetables, cheeses, and wines from Purple Périgord, allowing visitors to taste the region's authenticity.

For heritage enthusiasts, the area is rich in historical and cultural sites. The bastide of Monpazier (market on Thursdays, Place des Cornières), ranked among the most beautiful villages in France, is a remarkable example of medieval architecture. The castles of Monbazillac and Bridoire also offer enriching visits, blending history, games, and wine tasting.

Finally, the surrounding landscapes, such as those of the Cingle de Trémolat, offer breathtaking panoramas. This bend of the Dordogne is a privileged spot for photography and nature lovers. Visitors can also enjoy water activities on the Dordogne, such as canoeing, for a different discovery of the region.

La Guinguette d'Aujourd'hui in Creysse thus serves as an ideal starting point to explore the treasures of the Purple Périgord and fully enjoy the charms of this authentic and welcoming region.
