We visited after visiting the small town of Belves and getting a ticket for the Troglos caves for later in the day. After lunch with an hour and a half to kill we came across this as something to visit. We arrived c 1.45 with the cave visit at 3. Initially we were nervous as no one was around and were not sure what we were getting for our entrance fee. I have to say however that in the end we wish we had had more time! This is a brilliant place to visit. We were very warmly welcomed by our guide who was really really excellent (I'm afraid I didn't catch his name, though he has a beard and is from Paris!) We made a felt flower and had an interesting explanation of the history of the mill. After that we toured the mill itself which is very interesting, though due to needing to head back up to Belves we left, though we could have easily spent another 20 or 30 minutes there (and we couldn't do the escape game as that only in French). 5 stars and an extra for our guide!

We visited the filature as part of our visit to Belves, together with the town and the ‘troglos’ it made for a varied visit. This interesting piece of industrial heritage is well preserved, in working order, but not actually working. The machines are well greased which preserves some of the original factory smell/sensation. Most of the machinery was installed in 1949 when the original water powered mill was extended with a largely electric powered machines. The visit included a short ‘workshop’ in which we made a felt-flower, and for children an escape game makes the factory easier to explore.
