    • You say to yourself : "Another cave with stalagmites and stalactites ? Certainly, you will see some. But that's not why Maxange was recognized as unique in the world. Do you know the eccentrics ? These are limestone formations that go in all possible and unimaginable directions. Visible in only a few caves in the world and in small quantities, you will discover them by the thousands at Maxange. 30 minutes from Sarlat, do not miss this masterpiece of nature in this cave discovered in 2000. An experienced guide will introduce you to the mysteries of this unique site, easy to access, classified as a national heritage, 2 stars in the Michelin Guide.

Since 2023, come and enjoy a surprising new gallery as well as new lighting and new sound and light for a (re)discovery of this incredible place.

A great attraction for all ages and languages! I don't agree with other non french speakers, the translated information sheets are informative and yes, you could walk through in 15 minutes but I'm not sure why you'd have paid to be in a cave if you just want to get to the other end. There's so much to look at, the history of how the site went from a quarry to a cave is interesting, our guide was able to answer our questions in English to add to the information we already had. I was there with a 4 and 7 year old, the 4 year old was a little scared when it was dark for short times but they both enjoyed it too! I was particularly impressed when they switched the normal lighting to UV which caused the stalactites to glow in other colours. I would highly recommend a visit if in the area! Thanks!

Unique place with tons of pure calcite excentrics. 45 minute tour ideal for quick visit or (smaller) children with short attention span. Lovely guided tour with a nice story of discovery and formation.

An impressive cave to look at but not one to visit with children. It could have taken 15 minutes to walk around but instead you crawl along in a large group, regularly stopping, for 45 minutes with incredibly bored young children who want to keep moving. The tours are only in French and although you are given a translation card, it is only a short synopsis so there’s lots of waiting around with no understanding of the great detail that the guide must be going into. (Also a warning if you are going: the lights are turned off and you’re plunged into pitch darkness for a few moments at the beginning which is petrifying for little ones)

Thoroughly enjoyable visit to some relatively recently discovered caves, the only minor irritation being the guide being conducted in French, although to be fair some explanation was in English. The...

Very well worth a visit, tour in French but guide spoke good English and with written handout all was good. The way the cave is lit adds to appeal.

Lovely cave where we took our somewhat reluctant 7 and 11 year old boys. They loved it with spectacular stalactites and unusually shaped formations in vast quantities. Well worth the time to visit
