    • La Roque Saint-Christophe, Fort and troglodyte city, medieval activities for the whole family!

La Roque Saint-Christophe is located between Montignac-Lascaux and Les Eyzies, in Périgord Noir. It is an immense limestone cliff more than a kilometer long and 80m high. Occupied since prehistoric times by our ancestors, it was a flourishing city in the Middle Ages and until the Renaissance. Come visit a unique place in Périgord, due to its dimensions, the quality of its museography and its diverse activities , for the whole family!

      Free, guided or demonstration tours

La Roque Saint-Christophe is open all year round, it is one of the major, unmissable sites in Dordogne and the region. It will interest the whole family, from its history linked to our ancestors ( prehistoric men ) to its medieval occupation having left traces all over the cliff.

The visit can be free, with a visit booklet and interpretation panels . You walk on several floors (80 easy steps) and the large perched aerial terrace, 300m long, offers you a grandiose panorama of the Vézère Valley , below.

Guided tours appeal to those who enjoy listening to a fascinating story and asking questions . The guides await you in season, for a visit of approximately 45 minutes on the large terrace. Some tours also offer demonstrations of medieval lifting equipment . They were built by specialist builders of this period and are impressive to see in operation!

Please note: A 3D film offers you a realistic reconstruction of what the occupation of the cliff was like in the Middle Ages. You will be able to understand how several hundred people lived in semi-troglodyte habitats , attached to the cliff!

Simply spectacular! It's a fantastic learning experience for both adults and kids. We spent the entire morning there, and my kids, aged 4 and 6, thoroughly enjoyed it and asked a lot of questions. We visited on a Monday morning, and it wasn't crowded at all.
