    • The Grotte de Villars is located near Brantôme, in Périgord Vert. This natural cavity is of geological and prehistoric interest.

During the visit (approximately 45 minutes), the guide will show you 500m of galleries. The rooms are very rich in concretions : calcite flows, fine stalactites, stalagmites, draperies and other fistulas.

      New sound and light animation
In the deepest room of the tourist route, the new sound and light scenario takes us back 200,000 years to make us relive the rise of underground water flooding the room, it also evokes the presence of cave bears and that of men. prehistoric people who ventured deep into the cave. The new musical atmosphere and the use of new lighting technologies allow an unprecedented discovery of the underground environment, magnifying the space and the natural formations of this room.

In the prehistoric part, we discover many paintings, authentic testimony of the art of our ancestors: horses, ibex, bison and one of the rare scenes of prehistoric art which combines a human representation and a bison. These paintings were made approximately 19,000 years, they appear under a thin layer of calcite which gives them a very particular blue color.

In addition to the visit to the cave, the prehistoric garden presents you in a fun and accessible way, Cro-Magnon Man and his environment.

The natural phenomenon in these caves is breathtaking. Knowledgeable guide spoke slowly and clearly to ensure everyone understood. French only spoken but there are paper guides available for non french speakers.

Great place, a must visit if in or near the area. We were about an hour and a half away well worth the drive. No pictures are allowed in the cave, so you'll just have to visit, but it does have wow factor. Entry price was €12 pp good value. We'd just missed a cave tour had to wait just under an hour, but there was a video to watch and the park to walk around and the obligatory gift shop. Photo is of the fridge magnet )to add to our collection).

Loads of great Information and some fun things to do. The cave itself is stunning and the effects produced to give you a feel of what it would have been like as a home or sacred place of its day are brilliant. Obviously no photos taken in the cave!
