    • The Mandolin Cafe Bar Brasserie

Passing through Brantôme for a day of visiting the Venice of the Périgord Vert, come and have a meal at La Mandoline, a brasserie -style café that offers simple but delicious dishes to satisfy small and large appetites. Set in a rock shelter, the semi-troglodyte restaurant offers a menu that will please everyone! The terrace with a view of the Abbey will charm you, there are also places inside with a view of the bell tower. It is an atypical place to enjoy excellent burgers with homemade fries, good and plentiful salads, local beer, very good desserts.

We are here regularly but understand it has been taken over by new people. The change has not been for the better. 2 visits, the first was simply salad which was wilted, brown, mouldy egg and poor quality ingredients. The second visit, I should have known better was met with a disastrous family meal where instead of “steak frites” we were served with raw burgers, chips that had that unpleasant old oil taste and burnt fish. It was so bad, we didn’t stay for the desserts that were included. Stood for ages at the till trying to pay whilst the staff cleaned the coffee machine, despite seeing us desperate to get away. Horrible food, awful staff, a shake because previous owners did a fabulous job. We won’t be back and we will no longer recommend.

A lovely wee place with great, simple food. No pretensions but you'll have a good feed at a really decent price. And in a fab location. Also the toilet is literally a cave!

We ate here in October. The waitress was rude, abrupt and we should have walked out as eventually when we were served the quiche was sold out so had a bavette which was tasty but extremely chewy. Pudding was served with no cutlery and every time I politely asked for something she was rude and very unfriendly.... everything seemed like too much trouble. I was given a dirty spoon so asked for a clean one to which she snatched it off me with no apology. On paying there was no smile, eye contact or words. Worst waitress I have ever encountered. We spoke good French too so there was no excuse.
