    • In the heart of the Isle valley, in Dordogne, Saint-Astier offers a rich historical and cultural heritage.

      A bit of history

Saint-Astier has a long and fascinating history. It was an important administrative centre for several centuries.

The city is now home to many historic buildings:

      • The fortified church of Saint-Astier
      • The castle of Puy-Saint-Astier
      • The historic monument Chartreuse de Fareyoux

Architecture lovers will also love the old stone houses and Romanesque churches.

      Lime from Saint-Astier

The city is world-renowned for its production of pure natural lime. It is located on chalky soils that have allowed the establishment of lime extraction plants. Lime is used, in particular, for the restoration of historical monuments.

An ideal starting point for exploring the Périgord

Located near Périgueux, Saint-Astier is perfect for exploring the riches of the Périgord region. Castles, medieval villages and forests will no longer hold any secrets for you at the end of your stay in the Dordogne.

We consulted this tourist office which assured us of the reliability of a gîte owner, Mr. Jean-Marc Delmas, who owns the gîtes of Mas du Barrat (which we rented) as well as those of Mas de Fayolle, Mas d'Auriac and Mas de Violette, but the latter has very unscrupulous practices. Having forgotten our checkbook we transferred €1000 to him as a deposit, it would have been a shame for us to trust him. Almost half of this sum was withheld from us for futile reasons, €47 for an old toaster that was already well worn and still in working order when we left, 20 hours of cleaning even though we had scrubbed the house before our departure. departure, 40€ for the pool liner even though it was not specified anywhere that it was our responsibility to clean it and so on… While no entry inventory had been sign. Not to mention questionable electricity (we took several shots of juice while using the kitchen) which is extremely dangerous, especially for the young children we had with us, the lack of security around the swimming pool, overflowing showers and the lack of VMC in the bathrooms… This is the first time that such a mishap has happened to us during a vacation rental! In short, flee this dishonest owner who will do anything to make money off your back.

An ideal place to organize your visit to the city and the region. A friendly welcome from a person who is available and gives good advice. Well located, this Tourist Office is an informative detour.
