In the Bergerac region, the Forêt de Liorac runs along the Dordogne river. It is a preserved environment, part of which is classified as a “Regional Nature Reserve”, for the protection of its fauna. A hiking loop starts from Saint-Sauveur and allows you to walk around it, without disturbing the animals. In the forest, you will see surprising cobblestones. If some have indeed been cut, to dress the streets of the surrounding towns and villages, it is above all a geological curiosity , totally natural! It is the modifications of the climate during the tertiary era, which sculpted the sandstone, and the man was satisfied to exploit this richness of the forest of Liorac. During the 18th and 19th centuries, the economy of the region was flourishing, thanks to these cobblestones.
