    • The bell tower of the Brantôme abbey church dates from the 11th century. It is among the oldest campanile bell towers in France. It has the particularity of being an independent building, built on a rocky overhang 12 meters high against which the church is built.

Its architecture is characteristic of the Romanesque style which flourishes in the Limousin region and is characterized by the use of gables crowning the bays and by a superposition of four recessed floors. Its tip is capped by a quadrangular stone pyramid.

Guided tours of the cloister, the church and climb to the bell tower from February to the end of December. Limited to 18 people per visit.

Great place for all the family especially on a Friday. Market day buzzing. Paddle boards and canoes to hire and electric boars. Good cafes and restaurants next to the river plus free parking down the side of the river where the canoe hire base is. Brocantes and cave grotto shops add to the fun.

Beautiful town, lovely river and a lot of places for the kids to play with a ball or just walk around. Nice restaurants.

Beautiful provincial town with an ancient abbey, Saturday and Tuesday market and lots of quaint shops and restaurants. Book your restaurant early as it gets very busy. Lots of tourists but still enjoyable. Very safe. Lots to see. Parking outside the town centre in full sun. And if you want to make a fool of yourself you can always hire a kayak and attempt to paddle down the Drone. (If you've been you'll know what I mean).
