CRO-MAGNON PATH IN THE VÉZÈRE VALLEY

Today’s hike departs from Sireuil, a small village located 4km from Eyzies. The village is really charming, with its stone houses and its lauze (a flat and thin stone) roofs, typical of the Black Perigord.

All the hiking trails are marked by signposts erected by the Conseil Général. You can find all the hiking loops by areas (Mauzens-et-Miremont with a loop of 7,8km, Les gorges  ’Enfer in Tayac with a loop of 10km, Campagne and its different forests, Le Bugue with its loop of 14km…).

Todays loop is called « Le Mas de Sireuil » and stretches over 4 kilometres. There is a beautiful viewpoint from Sireuil over the “beune” (Regional noun from Dordogne defining the river and valley). The landscape stretches endlessly, over hills and dense vegetation.

The beginning of the hiking is on the road, for approximately 1km. It is a quiet oad; Sireuil is a very small village where the cars of the locals are more frequent than those of tourists.

The yellow markers show me the path; I follow them until the entrance of the forest. The pathway is a clean mixture of sand and small stones. The surrounding area isvery quiet, not a sound. From here, I can reach the village of Tamniès, a further 10km. But I decide to carry on with my loop!

Périgourdines houses, fields, forests, cows and other farm animals are my companions for the day. It is a very pleasant path, mostly flat. The hardest hike is only on the last few metres but it is accessible to all. I climbed it slowly in order to admire the beautiful houses of the Black Perigord, in stone and lauze! I never have enough of these farm buildings!

The loop ends at the Mas Campsite. I slowly return to Sireuil to end my hiking trail. It is a very easy loop showing you the rich heritage and the surrounding of the Mankind Valley. I spent around fifty minutes, taking my time. It all depends of your pace!

It is a family trail, ideal for the children wanting to discover the nature close to you are staying! The hiking trails allow you to spend some convivial moments and get closer! Do not forget to bring comfortable shoes!!
