Les Villégiatures: concerts, at the Château de Biron

Come and spend a musical moment out of time, in the enclosure of one of the four baronies of Périgord… The Château de Biron is the host of convivial and relaxed evening concerts, on Thursday evenings in summer a few minutes from Monpazier. We attended the first concert, which brought together two groups of talents, because the Villégiatures is above all an opportunity to merge the enchanting beauty of the local timeless heritage, with the discovery of current attractive artistic projects. The origin of the Villégiatures

Les Villégiatures is an original project that stems from a first draft 3 years ago: Les Lascaux Sessions, very very intimate streaming concerts, recorded in unusual places such as the Lascaux caves and broadcast live! The desire to share with more people the joy of seeing talented artists perform in a dream setting, this is what pushed the small team to see wider and invest since 2020 in the grounds of the Château de Biron.

 

The Château de Biron is a giant of stone, a remarkable heritage on the border between Lot-et-Garonne and Périgord. It also faces the Agenaise plain and faces Monflanquin, a Lot-et-Garonnaise country house perched on a pech (a hill). You can see the Château de Biron from afar, when you arrive from Monpazier, it is imposing and proud like its history. 800 years link these stones to the Gontaut-Biron family, who invested and reworked it many times from the 13th to the 20th century, to offer our amazed eyes a hodge-podge of the most astonishing styles. It is a journey through time, we oscillate from one wing to another between the defensive vocation of its thick walls and the decided elegance with which its style has evolved, to the point of making it an opulent and comfortable home in the Twentieth century. The Château was sold for lack of funds and after the owners had completely dismantled it in 1938. It is now the property of the Department and you can visit it, I recommend it!

Evening-concert in a castle in the Dordogne...

Les Villégiatures is the opportunity to take a break and appreciate a special moment: an evening concert comfortably installed on a deckchair, in a green setting and stones that offer perfect acoustics!

In 2021, it is until August 14 that the concerts take place. The doors open at 7:30 p.m. and until 11:00 p.m. (and more if you like!), Savor these precious musical moments... An eclectic program awaits you, carefully chosen by the young, cheerful team who organize the concerts.

 

Around 100 seats are available at each concert. Neither too much, nor too little, to establish connivance between the artists and the public, so that we all have the necessary space to enjoy the place and the good musical waves in a privileged way. On the catering side, an Indian caterer regaled us that evening with a delicious meal with oriental accents. In vegetarian or classic version, the dishes are to be chosen at the stand, then to take away for a tasting in your deckchair, with a view of the castle , not bad is not it? A refreshment bar is in place, with a nice choice of Bergerac Duras wines and local beer and soft drinks.

  

Two groups follow one another during the evenings of the Villégiatures, one around 8:45 p.m., under a majestic end-of-day light and the second around 10:15 p.m. when night has fallen and the castle lights up with bucolic light garlands.
The evening of our presence, we had the great joy of discovering De Grands Enfants (fr), a duo, exceptionally put together in a trio with the presence of a clarinetist friend of Anatole and Baptiste. Originally from the Basque Country, their graceful acoustic style gently carries moving lyrics, sometimes funny but always very accurate. From the first notes, we are captured and their live performance close to the public immediately seduces.

The second group of the evening, El Gato Negro (fr), is a large-scale Toulouse group, which resonates with a multitude of musical influences with very smooth and dancing rhythms, a beautiful powerful and calm voice of the singer Alex. As a guitar duo, they gently raised the atmosphere... inviting with their joyful notes, the spectators to get up from their deckchairs to sway with delight. How good it is to share these moments, especially this very special year!

This year, a few dates will surely be offered at the Château de Bourdeilles , a very beautiful medieval and Renaissance-style complex, which is located in the Périgord Vert, a few minutes from Brantôme. The Villégiatures team wants to see if its concept can be exported and why not settle in a more sustainable way in Bourdeilles (and elsewhere?) Next year.
