Lascaux II, opened in 1983, is the first facsimile, located in Montignac on the hill protected by Unesco, a few meters from the original cave. Discover the exact replica of the axial diverticulum and the hall of the bulls which represents 90% of the paintings of the famous cave. Leaving the light of day for the world of darkness, you will have the privilege of being the only group and the feeling of walking through the original cave. Throughout the visit, the guide will strive to recreate the emotion of discovery and introduce you to the intimate and universal art of Lascaux. Visit “At the origins”

A storytelling walk will begin near the original cave and will immerse you in the history of this fabulous discovery.

In the light of the grease lamp, the works will unfold and come alive to the rhythm of this flickering flame.

Discovering the Lascaux cave in this very special atmosphere, under the same conditions as our ancestors 21,000 years ago, will prove to be a real return to origins.

We were initially unsure about the Lascaux II tour due to some underwhelming reviews mentioning restrictions like no photos and cramped conditions at the entrance and exit of the replica cave. However, we were pleasantly surprised by our experience—it was truly worth it. We joined the English-speaking group led by the excellent guide, Ludivine, who went above and beyond to make the tour memorable. Unlike typical guides who simply recite dates and state ‘dry’ facts, Ludivine engaged us with her improvisation and interactive style. She is a very good storyteller. Even our kids found the tour captivating; it was far from boring and truly entertaining. Leaving the caves, we couldn't stop discussing about our impressions from the tour/ And the facts we learned - first humans in Europe, ochre -manganese paintings, tarpans, lions, aurochs, symbols, fragility of limestone caves, etc. Definitely recommend

Went with a tour group. The tickets were prepaid and reservations were made a head of time. Very cool experience. There is a little park/hike you can do outside the actual cave.

We almost didn't go because this is a replica. It was stunning, a message to humanity from 15,000 years ago. Our guide gave a moving, thought-provoking presentation. We were in caves all day, and as soon as we entered, all thoughts of this being a "mere replica" vanished. The woman who spent 11 years perfectly copying these paintings using original materials and techniques performed a miracle.

We'd previously been to Lascaux IV and while that is the bigger (having more of the caves reproduced) and certainly more modern, this felt a lot closer to the real thing: less clinical and 'perfect...
