In the middle of a valleyscape, Beaumont du Périgord is the "first royal bastide" English.
Located on the road Bergerac Cahors, founded in 1272 by Lucas de Thanay, seneschal of Guyenne, this bastide of importance has preserved its fortifications pierced by 16 doors that the Luzier door by which one enters today in the borough.
While most of the bastides are built on a quadrangular plan, Beaumont is H-shaped, designed by King Edward I in memory of his father, Henry III.
Discover the St Front Church whose defensive character is highlighted by 4 towers and a walkway, it is probably one of the most beautiful fortified religious buildings in the South West of France.
