Coutellerie Nontronnaise , heir to age-old know-how, is part of the French landscape of regional knives.
A Nontron is more than a style: it is a genre that we defend and which wants to say a lot about our territory and our know-how.
In this universe, the Nontron knife is an ancestor and inspires many legends. This imaginary dating back to the dawn of time is based as much on its imagined forms as on its distinctive pyrographed sign.
Its history is so long that it is even difficult to date its birth. However, specialists agree that the Nontron knife is the oldest knife in France and that its origins date back to at least the 15th century.
But tradition does not mean immobility. Quite the contrary, Coutellerie Nontronnaise, in its wooden and aluminum setting designed by Luc-Arsène Henry, has offered the services of renowned designers such as Olivier Gagnère, Eric Raffy, Christian Ghion.
Heirs to a long local cutlery tradition, today's cutlers still work to handcraft the Nontron with the same gestures as their predecessors. The workshop, close to the heart of the city, allows visitors to see and appreciate the artisanal manufacturing.Hours of operation :
