    • Coutellerie Nontronnaise , heir to age-old know-how, is part of the French landscape of regional knives.

A Nontron is more than a style: it is a genre that we defend and which wants to say a lot about our territory and our know-how.

In this universe, the Nontron knife is an ancestor and inspires many legends. This imaginary dating back to the dawn of time is based as much on its imagined forms as on its distinctive pyrographed sign.

Its history is so long that it is even difficult to date its birth. However, specialists agree that the Nontron knife is the oldest knife in France and that its origins date back to at least the 15th century.

But tradition does not mean immobility. Quite the contrary, Coutellerie Nontronnaise, in its wooden and aluminum setting designed by Luc-Arsène Henry, has offered the services of renowned designers such as Olivier Gagnère, Eric Raffy, Christian Ghion.

Heirs to a long local cutlery tradition, today's cutlers still work to handcraft the Nontron with the same gestures as their predecessors. The workshop, close to the heart of the city, allows visitors to see and appreciate the artisanal manufacturing.

      Hours of operation :

      • The shop – workshop, Place Paul Bert : Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (5:30 p.m. for the workshop)

Free and open visit to the workshop all year round from Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (by appointment for groups).

      • The Rue Carnot store: Tuesday to Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Very nice to visit. They have many different knives and you can also look in the workshop. Please pay close attention to the opening hours. They are closed for a while in the afternoon.

I had my Puiforcat knives sharpened at this cutlery and I received knives that were sharper than when I purchased them. In addition the silver handles had been polished for the beauty of the gesture I imagine. I took the opportunity to buy cutlery with wooden handles, simple, well made and elegant. What a daily pleasure to handle these excellent craft objects. Many thanks.
