In Périgord, the trees are mostly deciduous, that is to say they fall in autumn to be reborn in spring. In winter, the trees are bare, it's a bit sad and that's why we are so happy to see the first buds in spring. Here, we work in the gardens from March and the spring holidays are perfect to discover in preview, the nature which wakes up. In particular, you will admire magnificent tulips of all colors, bright yellow rapeseed fields on the side of the roads. Apart from the wild nature, there are plenty of wonderful gardens to walk around in, here are some ideas!
The Jardin du château des Milandes in Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, which also offers a visit to the château of the magnificent, beneficent and famous Joséphine Baker. Although the castle is open almost all year round, from the end of March, raptor shows take place every day, as well as entertainment for children. There is a very pleasant little restaurant to have a meal or a coffee in the sun.
The Panoramic Gardens of Limeuil, in one of the most beautiful villages in France, of the same name, are as if placed on the hill on which the village is hung. 360 degrees of breathtaking views, which will already be put to the test, as you have to climb to the top of the village. But how pleasant it is in the middle of small restaurants, craftsmen! At the foot of the village, the Vézère is at its confluence with the Dordogne. The small pebble beach is very pleasant.
We agree, the bamboos are green all year round, yes, but here there are so many species that the walk is more of an educational visit than a simple stroll! The bamboos of Planbuisson, at the Buisson de Cadouin await you, on 1.5 ha of exotic and very pleasant forest. It is a remarkable garden not to be missed!
The Gardens of the Manoir d'Eyrignac are in Salignac, a beautiful place to discover between Montignac and Sarlat. 10 ha of gardens with plant sculptures, century-old box trees, giant yews. enough to walk with family or lovers all day long on the botanical trails. A picnic area awaits you for sunny days.
The Carsac-Aillac Water Gardens are a delight for the eyes. Here is the kingdom of water and water lilies. Come and take a walk there for a leisurely stroll through different landscapes, all embellished with flowing water or small lakes, which offer beautiful perspectives.
Nature is everywhere and there are many activities to enjoy. At the beginning of April, a large number of tourist sites are open again for the pleasure of holidaymakers. Enjoy!
In the very pretty village of Saint-Léon-sur-Vézère (fr), in a meander of the river of the same name, is the Préhistobranche. It is a park with tree climbing modules in the middle of the forest, which also consists (next to it), of a course to be done in the forest with dinosaurs (almost real ones...) and a very beautiful site with troglodyte shelters, the Conquil.
Yippee little boats! Discovering Bergerac is great, but taking a miniature boat ride is even more original! Enjoy the city in the morning, take a picnic of delicacies and go to the plain of Picquecailloux, on the lake, the miniature port awaits you for an original and family activity! Another suggestion, you could take a bike ride on the Bergerac cycle path...
We recommend, on a nice day, to soak your feet at the Saut du Chalard, a very pleasant hike to do with the family, until you reach an environment of narrow gorges with pretty waterfalls. They are located in Périgord Vert, near Champs Romain.
Good news ! Spring is also the start of the fishing season! We have prepared all the information you need to go fishing in the Dordogne. Don't forget your equipment if you come on vacation with us and above all, your fishing license to be collected from a sports shop or tobacconist!
A classic but timeless is the visit to the Most Beautiful Villages of France in Périgord! It is the dream place to enjoy the first beautiful days of the year, seated at a good little restaurant or with an ice cream in hand. From the April holidays, the craftsmen are back and invite you to discover their art, these are always nice walks to do with friends or family.
